QUICK NEWS AND UPDATES - May 2018
More dumping this month. I drove around the lanes and found a load of bags just past the crematorium, and a large tyre dump further up from the reservoir. It really makes my blood boil to see our countryside being treated in this way. I hope something is found in the bags so that the perpetrators can be caught and fined!
I had a good meeting at the end of April with Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water regarding the reservoir. Its a case of small steps and another meeting will take place later this month. I can’t give any details at present, because there are simply too many things to work out, but my ambition remains to put some agreement in place so our local community council looks after the paths/car park and empties the bins frequently.
PATH - LOWER RAVINE
The surface condition of the path was reported by me last month, and the County Council have now agreed to clean it up. I’ve been told a mini digger will be onsite to clear the mud/rocks that have slid onto the path some time in the next 6weeks.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING - LLETHRI ROAD by Calsonic
From the last correspondence I have with the County Council’s highways department construction of the pelican crossing by Calsonic will begin in May and last for approximately 4 weeks.

Swiss Valley community centre will receive over £30,000 of investment . Some £23,000 will be spent on structural works, and around £4000 on a new kitchen.
I met with traffic police officers outside the school a few weeks back and they continue (when they can) to provide us with a presence at key times (at the start or end of the school day) to deal with any speeders. I’m also trying to get a lollipop person to patrol around the school following the resignation of the previous post holder. Go-safe Wales will be attending the 20mph zone again this month with their speed vans, which I note were successful throughout 2017 with enforcement, resulting in a total of 93 detected offences being dealt with.
LLETHRI ROAD - DANGEROUS PARKING
Letters have been distributed.
We didn’t get the funding for this device so I’m looking at alternative solutions/sources.

ELECTION - 1 year on
It’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed since the last election. Its been a great pleasure to again represent Swiss Valley on both councils but in order to do that you have to attend meetings, otherwise our voice would not be heard. I’ll be publishing details of my meeting attendance records for both councils shortly along with those of others who are representing us. I think it will make interesting reading.
As well as my council work for the first time since being your councillor I have been chosen as Chair of Governors for Swiss Valley School, a role I hope to fulfil to the best of my ability, at a time when we are under the most heavy of financial pressures running a deficit budget. Money is tight but we continue to try and put the education of our children at the heart of our decisions, but I’m here to tell you it isn’t easy.
I’m also one of 2 vice chairmen on Bryngwyn school governors. Needless to say all these roles keep me busy and out of trouble!
And finally, here we go again, boomerang politics. Just when we think our hospital is safe, we are presented with options that in some instances take our hospital services backwards. Last time when I was leader of your community council we went into bat for all Llanelli residents, and it seems that we may now need to dust off our battle gear again. Its quite unbelievable.
